Thanksgiving is
an American holiday.
Each year, it is celebrated on
the 4th Thursday of November. This year it is on
November 26th.
Americans remember
the Pilgrims, the first English people to live in America.

The Pilgrims left England because of religious persecution. They crossed the Atlantic ocean aboard
the Mayflower to start a colony in New England in 1620.

The Pilgrims' first year was very difficult in the New World. They had little to eat because their crops didn't grow. Some Indians helped them. They showed them new plants. The Pilgrims wanted to thank the Indians, so they invited them to a special dinner.
